The Kogi State House of Assembly complex has been gutted by fire.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, ripped through the roof of the chamber, causing damage to the floor of the house.
The Speaker of the House, Mathew Kolawole, who was one of the first to visit the site, said he suspected sabotage, but insisted that it would not deter House members from sitting.
Director of the Kogi Fire Service, Salau Ozigi said the fire did not extend beyond the chamber and gallery of the assembly complex and the cause of the fire had not been determined.
The Governor of Kogi state Yahaya Bello said Security and technical experts are currently working hard to unravel the cause(s) of the inferno which has caused significant damage to the house of assembly Complex.
In a statement by the Commissioner for information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the State Government will inform the general public of findings as they unfold.
He said The State Government will also make provision for temporary arrangements to ensure legislative business is not completely halted as a result of the unfortunate incident.
