UK Nurse faces trial over alleged murder of seven babies

A 32year old nurse, Lucy Letby has been charged to court for alleged murder of seven babies in her care.

She is also facing trial for attempting to murder additional ten babies.

The nurse was alleged to have carried out the murder of the babies including five boys and two girls at her place of work in the Countess of Chester Hospital, in Chester northwest England between 2015 and 2016.

Speaking for the prosecution on Monday, Attorney Nick Johnson said ”the child deaths at the hospital’s neo-natal unit were statistically comparable to other unit in the U.K. before January 2015”.

According to Johnson, the situation drastically changed over the next 18 months, during which the hospital witnessed a significant rise in the number of babies who were dying.

“It is a hospital like so many others in the U.K. but unlike many other neonatal units in the UK, at the Countess of Chester Hospital a poisoner was at work,” he added, per the outlet.

Lucy Letby has denied murdering five boys and two girls, and attempting to murder another five boys and five girls between June 2015 and June 2016.

Letby is facing 22 charges including seven of murder and 15 of attempted murder.

Also, a boy who was born prematurely, was said to be just a day old and but died within 90 minutes of Letby coming on duty on June 8, 2015.
