Police in Zamfara parade 8 suspected bandits, collaborators

Zamfara State Police Command has paraded eight persons in connection to banditry activities in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Kolo, while addressing newsmen, paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters in Gusau, the state capital.

CP Kolo, represented by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu, said the suspects have been conniving with bandits by supplying them with food items, hard drugs, alcoholic drinks, army uniforms, live ammunition and AK47 rifles.

According to him, a woman from Barrikallahu in the Gusau area suspected to be an informant was also arrested. Detained together with the woman were her two younger brothers, whom he described as bandits.

He disclosed that one Alhaji Ali of the Tudun Wada area in Gusau was also arrested for supplying food items, medical assistance, brand-new Boxer motorcycles and other logistical help to the bandits and their families.

Some 250 AK47 live ammunition was also seized from one other suspect who was on his way to the forest for distribution to bandits, CP Kolo said; adding that a truck was also intercepted with the driver carrying different cartons of alcoholic drinks, hard drugs worth millions of naira as well as eight rustled giant cows.

A police statement has confirmed that investigation is ongoing, and that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
