President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed federal agencies dealing with rescue and disaster management to offer urgent assistance to Bayelsa flood victims, where over 700,000 people in 300 communities were displaced.
The President also enjoined public-spirited individuals and organizations to work with authorities towards restoring normalcy in flood-ravaged areas across the country.
While expressing sadness over the situation, the President said that erection of structures on water channels, disregard for early warning by NEMA, and changes to weather conditions caused by climate change, were believed to have been responsible for caused the floods in the 33 states so far, including the Federal Capital Territory.
He extended the nation’s condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the natural disaster.
