Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed says the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to be amended to make it more flexible for Nigerian students in the Diaspora to partake in the scheme at their convenience.
She disclosure this on Wednesday at the ministerial presentation of the 2023 budget in Abuja.
The minister noted that the current practice where students from the Diaspora have to partake in the NYSC within 3-years of graduation had discouraged many from the scheme.
She explained that the amended to the NYSC Act would see interested grandaunts from the diaspora participate in the national service scheme at a time that is convenient for them as well as being allowed to set up small and medium enterprises creating employment as part of the scheme.
The Minister of Youths and Sport, Sunday Dare, who joined the programme virtually, affirmed that the review of the NYSC Act was ongoing
