Gunmen have attacked a convoy of the popular Christian evangelist, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, killing about five persons.
Media reports say the attack occurred earlier on Friday along the Benin-Auchi road.
According to the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, Apostle Suleman is safe and sound.
Three policemen and two civilian drivers attached to the Apostle were killed in the attack, a police statement said.
One domestic worker was also reportedly killed as search for a second domestic worker is ongoing.
The police command disclosed that the DPO of Auchi Division and his team mobilised to the scene of the attack on receiving the information, killing one of the gunmen.
An “aggressive manhunt” for the fleeing criminals is ongoing, according to a police statement.
Some reports have said that Apostle Suleman was returning from a foreign trip when the gunmen attacked his convoy along the Benin-Auchi road.
