Man dupes girlfriend N2m, marries another woman

A 30-year- old man, Akeem Bello has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding his girlfriend, Olaotan Oladapo, of the sum of N2 million.

Akeem was arraigned on a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining by false pretences.

He is said to have committed the offence between March and December, 2020.

It was gathered that the defendant started dating Ms Oladapo in 2018.

Police prosecutor, Inspector A. Ajeniwa informed the court that the defendant began defrauding the victim (Ms Oladapo) in 2020 by converting the money she sent to him from overseas to his personal use.

Mr Ajenwa alleged that Akeem used the money to wed another lady.

He also claimed that Ms Oladapo’s womb “has been damaged due to series of abortions” she’s done at the instance of the defendant.

He said the offences contravened Sections 383, 421 and 390 (b and c) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

Presiding Magistrate, CM Akinwumi ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Custodial Centre.

The case was adjourned to November 2, 2022, for further hearing.
