Aston Villa appoints Unai Emery as head coach

Struggling English Premier League clubside, Aston Villa have appointed Frenchman Unai Emery as manager following the sacking of Steven Gerrard.

Emery, a former Arsenal boss, had been in charge of Spanish club, Villarreal, and will be taking over at Villa on November 1.

Villa have paid a 6 million euros (£5.2 million) buyout fee to Villarreal.

Aaron Danks will again take charge of the team at this weekend’s clash at Newcastle United, after Gerrard was dismissed last week following a 3-0 Premier League defeat by newly-promoted Fulham.
