A 16-year-old girl and a 61-year-old woman have been killed by a gunman who attacked a high school in St Louis, Missouri.

7 others were injured in the attack.

The suspect, 19-year-old and former student of the school also died after succumbing to injuries sustained after exchanging gunfire with the police.

The school authority says police “quickly stopped” the gunman. Witnesses say lives were saved after the gunman’s weapon jammed during the attack.

The gunman entered Central Visual & Performing Arts High School shortly after 09:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on Monday, and it was not immediately clear how he had access as the doors to the school building were locked.

His motive for the attack at the school of about 400 students is unclear.

The seven injured – three girls and four boys – all had non-life-threatening injuries, according to local media.
