Today’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Semi-Final Between Nigeria’s Flamingoes and the Las Chicas (The Coffee Growers) Of Colombia, is an opportunity for either of the two teams, to make it to the final of the tournament, for the first time.
Previously, neither Nigeria nor Colombia had gone past the Semifinals.
But both countries broke that jinx with the Flamingoes edging Powerhouse, USA 4-3 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw; on the other hand, Colombia defeated Tanzania 2-0, in a match the Eastern Africans finished with 9 women.
Head to head
Nigeria have defeated Colombia at this Level, each time both countries had met.
The Flamingoes thus maintains a 100% Win record against the South Americans, with two wins out of two (P2, W2).
The teams met for the first time at the World Cup tournament, in Azerbaijan 2012, where the Flamingoes ran out 3-0 Winners.
Their second meeting was st Costa Rica 2014, where Nigeria edged a closely fought encounter, by beating the Colombians 2-1, to Qualify for the Quarterfinals.
NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau arrived in India on Monday, had breakfast with the players, and asked them to be fully focused on making history for the country and themselves, y reaching the final, and winning the coverted trophy.
Gusau also assured the Coach Bankole Olowokere tutored ladies, that all their outstanding allowances, are being computed, and shall be cleared in good time.
