FG moves to boost Cocoa production in Ondo

The Federal government says it will support farmers to boost cocoa and plantain production in the agriculture value chain.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mohammad Abubakar stated this at the inauguration of a cocoa and plantain mega processing factory in Ilara Mokin, Ondo State.

Dr Mohammad Abubakar explained that the mega factory, when completed would promote standardization of cocoa and plantain to meet international market standard.

The Minister, represented by the Ministry’s desk Officer in Ondo State, Mr Olasunbo Olarinde, said the Ministry would increase supply of farm inputs at subsidized rate to the farmers.

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Mr Olatayo Aribo, promised more assistance to farmers in the state.

He urged other farmers’ Association to emulate CPFAN to boost food security in the country.

In a remark, the Alara of Ilaramokin, Oba Abiodun Adefehinti, advised the farmers to take advantage of the factory to increase their production.

CPFAN National President, Chief Ayodele Ojo, explained that the factory was established to bring together all value chains in cocoa and plantain production.

Chairmen of Cocoa and Plantain Farmers Associations from Ivory Coast and Ghana, Mr Joseph Konan, Mr Akwasi Mensah and Mr Israel Coulibay, said plantain and cocoa have been a big source of foreign exchange earner for Cote D’ivoire and Ghana and Nigeria.
