The Nigeria Army has inaugurated a military exercise code named Operation Golden Dawn 2 in Imo State.
During the inauguration by the Nigeria Army 34 Artillery Brigade, in Obinze area of Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma urged residents of the state to be law abiding and cooperate with the Army to ensure peace particularly during the yuletide.
“This exercise, being flagged off today, is a very welcomed development, the reason being that one, if we cooperate with the Nigerian Army as citizens, give them the necessary support, we will have a very peaceful Christmas, we will not have all these unknown gunmen, all the bandits causing mayhem here and there. Number two, it will encourage our brothers and sisters who live outside Imo State to come back home knowing fully well that Imo State is now secured,” he noted.
The Governor said the operation could not have come at a better time when the country was approaching the ember months as the period is always characterised by loads of activities.
“Our beloved brothers and sisters far and near come home to celebrate the festive period with us.
“It is therefore the time that we need to put all security measures in place so as to have uninterrupted celebrations.” Uzodimma said.
The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sani Suleiman, said the exercises was aimed at curbing the activities of bandits, and criminals as well as neutralize all forms of criminality in the state especially during the Yuletide season.
He said during the period of the exercise, the Nigeria Army would carry out road blocks, conduct covert and overt operations to dislodge all identified criminal strongholds.
