NEMA provides relief to flood victims in Zamfara

The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of relief materials to flood victims and other vulnerable persons in Zamfara State.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mustapha Gusau, during the hand-over of the materials to the Zamfara State government, said the relief materials were part of the 12,000 tonnes of assorted food items from the National Strategic Reserves Stock, released by the federal government for distribution to 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

Gusau who was represented by the Director of Finance, Sani Jiba maintained that the materials were distributed to alleviate the sufferings of the flood victims and the other vulnerable persons.

“We appreciate the personal donations of public-spirited individuals and the “can-do’’ spirit of the people for helping one another to recover from the floods.

It is my honour and privilege to formally present these materials for distribution to deserving victims through the good offices of the governor in fulfilment of the lofty ideals of President Muhammadu Buhari’’. Ahmed said.

Receiving the items, the Deputy Governor, Hassan Nasiha noted that the state government was not relenting in tackling the overwhelming challenges including insecurity in the state.

He warned that the government would prosecute officials caught diverting the relief materials in the course of distributing them.

The items distributed include; 1,000 10kg bags of rice, 1,000 10kg bags of beans, 1,000 10kg bags of maize, 75 20kg bags of salt, 8,000 pieces of nylon mats

Zamfara State is one of the states affected by flood this year, with an estimated 3,845 people affected, 14,628 farmland destroyed, 7,656 houses partially damaged while 2,107 houses were totally damaged
