Three persons have been killed in a Tanzanian plane crash into Lake Victoria while attempting to land in the lakeside town of Bukoba.
The Precision Air flight, which is Tanzania’s largest private airline was said to be carrying 43 people to Das es Salaam through Mwanza, to Bukoba.
A top regional official, Albert Chalamila said three bodies had been recovered so far following the crash.
According to him, the plane was almost completely submerged with only the brown and green tail fin above the water.
The two pilots survived the crash but remain trapped inside the cockpit but were said to have been speaking to local officials.
Rescue workers and local fishermen are on the scene trying to rescue those still inside the aircraft.
Meanwhile, the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan has condoled with those affected and called for calm as rescue operation continues.
