2023 election: IGP directs immediate distribution of anti-riot equipment

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate distribution of additional anti-riot equipment comprising bullet-proof vests with armored plates, ballistic helmets, long and short-range tear gas for civil disorder management to ensure that the personnel discharge their duties efficiently.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi says stun guns and uniforms were also distributed to the officers to ensure they appear in clean uniforms and are well-suited to discharge policing services professionally before, during and after the 2023 general election.

It says the gesture is to also boost the morale of the officers to enable them protect Nigerians across the country.

The statement says the IGP procured the items to improve their welfare and keep them prepared for the forthcoming 2023 elections to optimize professionalism and friendly engagements in crowd control.

It notes that it will also help police officers efficiently subdue any civil unrest, and adopt modern techniques of curtailing crimes and criminality.

”IGP assures of his administration’s continuous commitment to continually provide the needful and upgrade the operational capability of the Force at all levels to completely stamp out crimes and criminality in the country while providing top-notch election security management for the 2023 General Election”, the statement notes.

The statement urges police officers and men of the Force to exhibit discipline, decency, and respect people’s fundamental rights while discharging their duties.
