UEFA Europa League: Barca draw Man Utd in round-16 play-off

Barcelona will face Manchester United in an epic battle for a place in the round of16 knockout stages in the UEFA Europa League.

The winners of the two-legged tie which comes up in February 2023 will qualify into the last 16 to join the leaders of each group from the group stages.

This first leg of the tie will be at the Spotify Camp Nou, the home ground of FC Barcelona, with the second leg taking place a week later at the Old Trafford in England, which is the fortress of Manchester United.

The first leg is on 16 February, with the second leg on 23 February.

This is the first time Barca and Man U will be meeting in a Europa League match as both teams have always competed at higher level of club competition.

Barcelona have been impressive in the Spanish La Liga as they seat top of the log having played one more game than their fierce rival, Real Madrid but have been unlucky in their quest for European glory having been knocked out at the group stage in the last two consecutive seasons.

Barca Coach, Xavi Hernandez described the fixture as a top match.

“We will have to compete, going to Manchester against a really top rival and an historic side which has grown a lot with the arrival of Erik ten Hag”.

“They have great individual players and it is the toughest rival once again in the Europa League. It’s a massive challenge for us”, Xavi noted.

The draw also pitched Sevilla against PSV Eindhoven.
