Explosion in Istanbul kills 6, injures 53

At least 6 people have died and 53 wounded in an explosion in central Istanbul, the Turkish city’s governor has said.

Ali Yerlikaya said on Twitter that the blast happened at about 16:20 local time (13:20 GMT) on a shopping street in the Taksim Square area.

The cause of the explosion is still unclear.

Emergency services were at the scene at the time of filling this report.
