In line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has rolled out Cash Grants to vulnerable groups in Ebonyi State.
At the official roll out of the Grant and launch of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) at Government House, Abakaliki, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Umar Farouk urged the beneficiaries to invest the money wisely.
Represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Peter Nwakpa, the Minister explained that the Cash Grant to Vulnerable Groups as well as the GEEP were part of the Federal government’s National Social Investment Programme.
About 3,122 persons had been captured as beneficiaries of the Cash Grant in Ebonyi State and would receive N20,000 each while 1,840 persons would benefit from the GEEP programme categorised as Trader money, market Money and Farmer Money.
The Commissioner for Human Capital Development in Ebonyi State, Ann Aligwe said though the state government was pleased with Federal government’s poverty alleviation schemes, there was nevertheless the need for more vulnerable persons to be accommodated.
Highpoint of the event was the symbolic presentation of cheques to the GEEP beneficiaries as they await Bank alerts, which was promised to arrive in the next 24 hours.
