Ahead of the 2022 African Statistics Day, the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba has inaugurated the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS poverty dashboard Situation room in Abuja on Friday.
Prince Clem at the occasion called on governments to give priority to the rural areas as a way to attract investment to such areas.
Prince Clem quoted a recent poverty index report that said poverty is higher in the rural area with 72% and in urban areas 42%.
He urged state governments to provide the needed infrastructure in the rural areas to reduce migration and curb poverty, rather than engaging in what he described as building,”monuments”
The Statistician General of the federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran thanked the minister for his support to the NBS.
Prince Adeyemi explained that the situation room is where data associated with poverty would be collated and analysed to provide credible data for generating policies for poverty reduction.
The poverty dashboard Situation room is a 32 sitter sound proof room with a 12 by 5 feet screen displaying information on poverty.
