Women lawyers move to curb maternal mortality

The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA has adopted the Labour ward in Gwarimpa General Hospital in its effort to curb maternal mortality.

The International Director FIDA, Mrs Ezinwa Okoroafor stated this during a visit to Gwarimpa General hospital as part of the 2022 Law Week.

Mrs Okoroafor promised that FIDA will work closely with the management of the Hospital to provide appropriate equipment to ensure safer delivery of women.

The International Director FIDA decried the high rate of maternal mortality as unacceptable and called on all and sundry to support government’s effort to reduce the situation across the country.

The Chief Medical Director,  Gwarimpa General hospital, Dr Halima Bello while appreciating FIDA for their effort, called on other stakeholders to do same in the health sector.

Dr Bello said the management of the hospital was taking making necessary efforts to reduce infant & maternal mortality.

She advised women to ensure they start early antenatal and follow doctor’s instructions for safe delivery.

The theme for this year’s Law Week is ‘addressing the concept of Gender Justice in Nigeria’.
