The Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation says it is determined to encourage scientific thinking in schools in order to create a knowledge driven economy.
The Minister, Dr. Adeleke Mamora stated this in a programme to commemorate 2022 world science day in Abuja.
He said, the Ministry had created the 774 young Nigerian scientist presidential award to develop and sustain interest of Nigeria youth in science.
Dr. Adeleke said the winners of the award will be given scholarships to PHD levels at Universities within the country.
“The knowledge of science will never run dry, unlike resources. When we catch them young, we will encourage scientific thinking , especially in primary schools”
Speaking on the theme of the day “Basic Science for sustainable Development, Professor Uno Uno said the basic science taught in schools provides solutions to everyday problem.
Professor Uno said there will be no development without basic sciences, as it gives room to research.
Some of the students who displayed their inventions called on government to provide more funds to enable them mass produce.
The 2022 world science day celebration had execution to Federal Ministries of Science Technology and Innovation agencies, guidance and counselling of science students and a road show in Abuja.
