The National Association of Nigerian Students NANS, has rejected the the Education Bank and students loan scheme bill recently signed by the National Assembly.
The President of NANS Comrade Usman Barembu, made their position known during the National Summit on Tertiary Education Reform in Abuja.According to him, the loan scheme would be a strategy to increase tuition fees in Nigerian Universities, which the union would not accept.
Comrade Barembu also kicked against the issue of University autonomy, saying it would also make public Universities unaffordable to the common man.
He also stressed the need to increase the funding of the tertiary education fund from three to ten percent.
Barembu also urged the National Universities Commission to introduce stiffer penalties for sexual harassments in the nation’s Universities
