TikTok launches campaign to strengthen online safety

In its effort to ensure online safety particularly in the on going electioneering campaign in the country, a social media platform TikTok has launched its first safety campaign tagged “Safer Together Initiative”.

Unveiling the ”Safety Together Initiative” in Lagos, the Public Policy and Government Relations Director at TikTok in Africa, Mr. Forune Mgwili-Sibanda, reaffirmed that user safety has remained a top priority.

He said the initiative which was the first safety campaign for the platform in Sub-Saharan Africa, was aimed at empowering creators, parents, teachers and guardians with knowledge of TikTok’s safety features to ensure a positive in-app experience for everyone.

Mgwili-Sibanda said the entertainment platform in partnership with the Data Scientists Network, DSN will conduct workshops in schools in Abuja and Lagos, to educate and empower students in ICT.

Also, the founder of DSN, Dr. Olubayo Adekanmbi, said the digital world is the new normal for learning, engagement, and socialization; hence the need to make it safer.

He said TikTok would also be hosting a ”peace initiative” to encourage online safety awareness.
