The Africa Union has pledged its support to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible election next year.
The AU Special Pre-Electoral Political Mission, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka stated this when he led a delegation to the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Mrs. Mlambo Ngcuka said the visit was to ascertain INEC’s level of preparedness for the conduct of the general elections including financial and the roles of civil society, women, young people and persons with disabilities in the preparation of the polls.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmond Yakubu told the delegation that fifty percent of non sensitive materials had been deployed.
Professor Yakubu who also said that the Commission was in a more comfortable position in the disbursement of funds, however expressed worry over the attacks on its facilities.
He said the attacks would not stop them from ensuring a credible election in the country next year.
Professor Mahmoud Yakubu emphasised the use of Bimodal Voters Verification System,BVAS and promised that polling unit result would be uploaded in good time through the use of INEC Result Viewing Portal, IREV.
