The UN has commended Nigeria for her efforts towards attaining global peace.
The Deputy Secretary General of the UN, Mrs Amina Mohammed stated this while on a courtesy visit to the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre Jaji, Kaduna State.
Mrs Amina Mohammed expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s effort at curtailing internal security challenges within the available resources at its disposal.
She explained that Nigeria’s security is trans-border in nature which requires all hands to be on deck towards addressing the menace.
The Deputy-Secretary General stressed the need for more investment in human capital development to address the root causes of conflict in any society.
She expressed delight over the center’s partnership with International donors which according to her, enhances development where human rights are attained.
Earlier, Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General Auwal Jibril Fagge said the centre would leverage on the UN Deputy Secretary-General’s visit in ensuring further partnerships with relevant bodies.
He said the centre lays emphasis on improved training and education of peace-keepers on gender mainstreaming and sexual exploitation in line with its mandate.
Major General Fagge solicited for more collaboration with the UN in areas of infrastructural development, training sponsorship, ICT, among others with a view to upscaling the centre’s productivity.
