NDLEA arrests suspected drug kingpin in Abia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested a suspected drug dealer, Onyeaghalachi Stephen Nwagwugwu, who supplies illicit drugs in the South East and South South areas of the country.

In a statement, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi says the agency has been on the trail of Stephen for 9 years.

The statement notes that Stephen’s elder brother who has been on its wanted list narrowly escaped arrest during the overnight operation carried out simultaneously in their two locations in Umuahia and Ntigha Okpuola community in Isiala Ngwa North Local government Area of Abia state.

According to the statement, the two brothers allegedly started trading in drugs in the late 90s when they started as pocket dealers and later became drug barons.

It notes that NDLEA has been on their trail sine 2013 when they organized a mob attack on some of the Agency’s operatives who attempted to apprehend them during a raid.

According to the statement, the agency made another attempt to arrest the two brothers about 4 months ago which led to a simultaneous raid operation on their locations on Saturday.

The statement says in the course of the operation, one of the militiamen of the drug peddlers, Eberechi Kingsley was also arrested.

It notes that quantities of cocaine and variants of cannabis were recovered from the two houses and that NDLEA has sealed two hotels, one eatery and two mansions linked to them. Three exotic vehicles were also recovered from their homes.

The statement commends the officers the officers involved in the operation as well as men of the military who supported them for their professionalism.
