Females can now inherit and own property in their father’s family in Abia State.
This is coming after the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu assented to the Female Inheritance Bill, which gives the right to females to inherit and own property in their father’s family.
The Abia State Governor said the law would provide equal opportunities for both gender to promote sustainable development.
He noted that it was time the society stopped treating women as second class citizens.
“I recall that the Abia State House of Assembly passed the Bill some weeks ago to bring Abia State in conformity with international best practices in the area of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women” He said.
Governor Ikpeazu urged men to give more opportunities to women to enable them become more useful to the growth of their families and the society at large.
