FG seeks financial for 2023 censors

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed has solicited more funds from the United Nations towards the 2023 national population censors.

Dr. Ahmed made the appeal in Abuja, during a meeting with a delegation led by the United Nations Deputy Secretary General and Chair, UN Sustainable Development Group, Amina Mohammed on Tuesday.

The Minister who appreciated the UNFPA for it support to the National Population Commission explained that the appeal became imperative because of the 2023 election which would take a toll on next year’s budget.

Dr. Zainab Ahmed also appealed to the UN to support the call for the redistribution of the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) of the International Monetary Fund for the benefits of Nigerians, energy transition plan as well as Nigeria’s debt service obligations.

The UN Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed noted the economic challenges eminent globally and commended Nigeria for her efforts in surmounting these challenges.

On fuel subsidy, Amina Mohammed said the steps taken by the federal government were unavoidable but called for caution in its implementation, and stressed the need to educate the people of the gains of removing the subsidy.

The UN Secretary General reeled out some activities for next year including the SDG summit to take stock of the commitments to the financing of the SDGs.

Amina Mohammed pledged the support of the UN to the successful conduct of the election and the national population censors next year.
