FG ‘tackled’ 83 varsity road projects nationwide- Fashola

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola says the Federal Government has intervened in 83 internal roads in federal tertiary institutions across the country.

The Minister, represented by a Federal Controller of Works, Federal Ministry of Works, Kwara state, Engineer Lasisi Rafiu, disclosed this while  handing over a 2.75 kilometer asphalt overlay road constructed by the federal government in the University of Ilorin.

Mr Fashola, who described the project as an “investment in education”, said over 46 of such internal road projects in Federal tertiary institutions have been handed over as at March, 2022.

He said another 18 internal roads are ready to be handed over in other Federal institutions, while 19 more are currently being attended to across the country.

The 2.75 kilometre road being handed over links the University of Ilorin main campus to the institution’s teaching hospital, designed to ease vehicular movement along the axis.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole commended the federal government for embarking on construction of the road.

Professor Egbewole, who was represented by the Director, Academic Planning, Professor Gideon Arosanyin,  described the road as pivotal to the movement of staff and students between the main campus and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, through the College of Health Sciences.

He implored the Federal Government to rehabilitate more roads within the institution, especially the road between the main campus and the School of Preliminary Studies at Fufu.
