Jin had one of the most successful solo debuts in K-pop history, setting new records on all of the major global and local charts. Despite having only 10 days’ notice, one week pre-orders, delayed shipping, a 5-minute track, and no playlisting or radio play,
‘The Astronaut’ still achieved remarkable success, scoring the highest numbers in streams and sales that set new milestones.
Jin debuted with 5.6M streams on Spotify, surpassing all of the soloists’ debut numbers before him. The song is at 75M streams already, and it is the fastest Korean solo song to reach this number. Jin is also the longest-charting K-pop male soloist on Spotify Global chart with a solo song.
‘The Astronaut’ by Jin made it into the Top 3 of the biggest first week K-pop solo albums streaming debuts on Spotify in 2022, having only 1 track on his album.
The rest of the albums in the Top 10 had a minimum of 7 tracks each! He has 24.2M first-week streams with his 5-minutes track! ‘The Astronaut’ is considered a single album.
Jin’s solo album is already close to being finished. The artist said it is going to be released after Jin comes back from the military in 2024. He is known for writing beautiful soulful tracks but also being flexible and experimental with genres. The lyrical talent of Jin was praised even by Chris Martin himself saying his first solo album is going to be a big release for sure.
