A 14-year-old boy has been killed in the French city of Montpellier after he was run over shortly after France’s World Cup semi-final victory over Morocco.
The teenager was hit by a car after the match which later led to his death at the hospital, BBC says.
Images on social media showed a car, adorned with the French flag, being surrounded by people who then grabbed the flag.
The driver, who appeared to have panicked, accelerated into two teenagers.
As he turned his car around and sped off, the teenage boy was hit and went into cardiac arrest.
The local MP, Nathalie Oziol, who expressed her sympathy with the boy’s family, said it was an Immense sadness that a sporting event should end in total tragedy.
The local prefect in the southern Hérault area said the car was later found abandoned not far from the scene of the accident, and police have begun searching for the driver.
