NEMA distributes relief items to flood victims in Ebonyi

Officials of NEMA distributing the relief materials to affected persons

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has distributed relief items to victims affected by this year’s flood disaster in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

At the event communities in Ikwo, the South East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Tanimo Thickman explained that over fifty thousand persons were affected by the disaster in the state.

The distributed items include mattresses, rice, beans, maize, blankets, buckets, roofing sheets and clothes to the flood ravaged communities situated on low river beds few months ago.

In Ebonyi State, the most affected communities were Amagu, Ekpomaka and Inyemagu in Ikwo Local Government Area where rice farmers were displaced and their farms ravaged.

Mr Tanimo Thickman said following an assessment conducted by the Agency, over forty thousand persons were affected by the flood incident in Ikwo emphasising that more relief items would be supplied to the affected victims.

The Member representing Ezza South and Ikwo Federal Constituency, Comrade Chinedu Ogar, said his ensured that the items were taken down to the constituents.

Two of the victims expressed appreciation to the Federal government for reaching out to them.

They said the adoption of direct distribution of the relief items was the first of its kind in the history of disaster occurrence in the communities.
