Attorney-General files charge against killer policeman

Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), has filed a one-count charge against a policeman, ASP Drambi Vandi, for the murder of Mrs Bolanle Raheem.

The Attorney-General, who appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, applied for the remand of the defendant pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.

He told the Chief Magistrate, Ms Adeola Olatunbosun that the basis for the remand is to allow the police to conclude its investigations into the matter.

The magistrate granted the request to remand the defendant at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr Jide Martins for legal advice.

She then adjourned to January 30, 2023 to await legal advice.

PSC approves suspension of ASP Drambi Vandi

On Thursday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved the suspension of ASP Drambi Vandi for allegedly shooting and killing Mrs Bolanle Raheem.

Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Ikechukwu Anion in a statement who confirmed the suspension disclosed that it was with immediate effect.

He said the commission had also directed that the final investigation into the matter is concluded to enable the commission take further necessary action.

“The commission, in a letter to the Inspector General of Police (I-G), signed by its acting Chairman, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, retired has carefully examined the facts of the case.

“It has granted the approval of the suspension of the officer from duty with immediate effect after observing allegations brought against him,” he said.

Ani said the commission had earlier condemned the unprovoked killing of the lawyer and had demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.

He said the commission has also called for proper training of Police personnel on weapon management.

Raheem was allegedly shot and killed by a policeman attached to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos State on Christmas Day.
