Nasarawa Governor signs Executive order on insecurity

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has signed an Executive Order to protect host  mining communities from insecurity and criminal activities in their surroundings.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Kwanta Yakubu disclosed this at a news briefing in Lafia, the State capital.

Mr Yakubu said the order tagged “Executive Order Number  02  2022”, which was signed by Governor Sule, is  aimed at “providing transparency, accountability and easy access” to conduct “environmental impact assessment” of mining activities in the state.

He said under the order, host communities are restricted from bequeathing the rights of occupancy of  their land to entities  for the purpose of mining.

The Commissioner added that the state government, in conjunction with relevant agencies and traditional institutions in the state, has commenced implementation of the Executive Order, with a view to prosecuting violators.
