FG distributes refrigerated meat vans to states

The Federal government has distributed over 37 Refrigerated Meat Vans across the states of the federation including the FCT to commence modernised meat haulage system.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mahmood Abubakar who made this known at the launch and distribution of the Vans to Butchers Associations of each State warned that as from 29th May, anyone caught without adhering to the guidelines of meat haulage would be penalized.

He explained that the condition of most abattoirs in the country were very poor which lead to a loss of revenue and posed a threat to human health.

“In order to demonstrate our commitment to revive the meat haulage system in Nigeria, arising from this meeting, we are going to flag off the distribution of Refrigerated Meat Vans to the Butchers/Meat Seller’s Unions/Association to commence the process of modernized meat haulage system in their respective States. In addition, Butchers/Meat Seller’s Unions and Associations are advised to approach the Bank of Agriculture and other private investors to acquire more refrigerated meat vans for their operations’’. He stated

The minister maintained that the development of modern meat haulage would generate more revenue for the nation.

The representative of Butchers associations in the country, Alhaji Musa Baba-Ahamed expressed gratitude to the federal government and other stakeholders for the initiative and promised to comply with the regulations to ensure meat hygiene in the country.

The Managing Director the Bank of Agriculture Alwan Ali Hassan pledged more collaboration with stakeholders to fund and supply butchers with Refrigerator vans.
