Police rescue DPO abducted in Plateau

Pankshin Divisional Police Office (DPO), SP Nwapi Augustus

The Police Command in Plateau says it has rescued the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Pankshin, SP Nwapi Augustus, who was abducted by gunmen less than a week ago.

This was contained in a statement on Sunday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, in Jos.

Radio Nigeria reports that gunmen had, on January 11, abducted the DPO and whisked him to an unknown destination.

DSP Alabo said following the DPO’s kidnap at 8:30 pm last Wednesday, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies and hunters in the area, swung into action and eventually freed him from his captors.

”The officer has been taken to the hospital for medical examination and treatment, and will soon be reunited with his family,” he said.

The PPRO said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bartholomew Onyeka, had deployed a “tactical team” to ensure the perpetrators were arrested and brought to book.
