The Federal Government has “successfully intervened” in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary health and educational institutions across the country, says the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
The Minister announced this on Tuesday in Yenagoa, during the handing over of a number of internal road projects to the Federal Medical Center in the Bayelsa State capital, constructed by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The Ministry has rehabilitated and reconstructed 380 meters of internal road at the facility, Mr. Fashola announced.
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, he said, decided to “step up efforts” to “bridge the infrastructure gaps” in federal education and health institutions across the nation through repairs and reconstruction as well as rehabilitation of major high ways.
A total of 64 internal roads have been completed; in addition, construction works are ongoing in 19 others, the Minister stressed.
Represented by Controller, Works, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Bayelsa State, Patrick Nnaji, the Minister said about 60 people were employed under the civil works project at the Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa.
It is an investment that will further “improve on the quality of health care services” at the institution, he added.
In a remark, the Chief Medical Director at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Professor Dennis Alagoa, expressed appreciation to President Buhari for the reconstructed internal roads and other projects carried out by the Federal government at the facility.
The CMD represented by the Head, Clinical Services, Dr Peter Alabrah, said the intervention had made access into the FMC easy for staff and visitors.
The reconstructed internal road project is situated at the back gate of the institution as well as sections at the entry point at the Federal Medical center.
