Truck crushes eight to death in Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, says it has recovered eight bodies from the accident involving a truck conveying a 20ft container found to have landed on top of a commercial bus at Ojuelegba opposite the fire service station.

In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu listed the fatalities to include 4 adult males, 3 adult females, a girl child and a boy child.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu said investigations revealed that the yellow commercial bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge, landing on top of it.

He explained that the Agency which responded to the accident alongside the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA and Nigeria Police, used it’s heavy duty vehicle, “Goliath” to suspend the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment.

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu added that one adult woman who was extricated alive had been taken to the trauma centre.
