Shark kills 16-year old girl in Western Australia

A shark has killed a 16-year old girl while swimming in a river in Western Australia.

The teenager was already dead before being pulled from the Swan River, in the Perth suburb of Fremantle, on Saturday.

BBC reports that an officer from the Western Australia Police, Inspector Paul Robinson, had noted that there was the possibility that the girl jumped in the water to swim with dolphins seen nearby.

He said the situation was “traumatic” as the family of the girl was devastated after hearing the news.

According to him, experts in fisheries say it is unusual to find sharks in that part of the river.
