Credible polls: Action Aid trains over 90 observers in Kano

A nongovernmental organization, Action Aid has trained over 90 election observers from Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe states on effective ways of monitoring elections.

Speaking during the workshop in Kano State, the project coordinator, Mr Frank Abu noted that the objectives of the training were to train Election Observers with the needed knowledge on proper monitoring of Elections.

Abu maintained that the contribution of election observers towards achieving credible elections was very vital, hence the importance of the training.

“Election observers would be there to check for several things including the timing, arrival of logistic materials and the security, as well as observing the general conduct of the forthcoming elections.”

He added that the training would also acquaint the observers with the requisite knowledge on various provisions of the new electoral amendment act which takes into cognisance the inclusion of people with disability and other provisions of the new electoral act.

Two of the participants, Jamila Musa from Kano and Sadiq Bako from Kaduna state, said it would go a long way in enhancing their capacity for effective monitoring of the elections.
