The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Lagos State, has appealed to the government to increase the stipend of Corps members serving in the state.
The Coordinator, NYSC Lagos State, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa made the plea at the closing of the Orientation Course for the 2023 Batch “A” stream One Corps members posted to Lagos state, held at the NYSC temporary Orientation camp in Iyana- Ipaja.
She said that the increment in Corps Members’ stipend was necessary considering the high cost of living evident in the country today.
She explained that there was need to look into the welfare package for Corps members, with the aim of boosting their morale so that they could put in their best in the various communities where they were serving.
Mrs. Baderinwa however, enjoined the Corps members to continue to impart positively on their host communities.
In his remark, the governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave the assurance that the government would look into the posibility of increasing the stipend for Corps members in the state.
Represented by the Special Adviser on Special Duties and Inter-governmental relations, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Sanwo-Olu advised the Corps Members to see wherever they were posted to as a challenge.
He also called on employers of Labour not to reject Corps members posted to their organisations, but to give them necessary support to make their service year, worthwhile.
He assured Corps members that would be participating in the conduct of the 2023 elections as INEC ad-hoc staff that the government had made adequate arrangement for their security.
Higjlight of the event was the presentation of Letters of Commendation to those that performed exceptionally during the Orientation Course.
