Police arrest eight gunrunners

The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested eight suspected gunrunners.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammed Shehu told Journalists in Gusau that two of the eight gunrunners were female.

SP Shehu explained that the command arrested six kidnappers including a man who masterminded the kidnap of his biological mother and collected N30m naira as ransom.

He said the command acted on intelligence report which let to the arrest of the kidnapping syndicate and the gunrunners that have been terrorising different villages in Kaduna, Kano and other neighbouring states like Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina.

One of the suspects, Thomas Ya’u confessed that, sometimes last year he masterminded the kidnapping of his biological mother and three others, and collected N30million as ransom.

A female gunrunner who specialises in arms supply to bandits and other criminal elements in Zamfara and other neighbouring states, Fatima Sani Kauran Namoda who was arrested with 323 rounds of AK 46 live ammunition, said she had earlier supplied three AK 47 Rifles and 1000 rounds of AK 47 Live Ammunition to bandits operating within Zamfara.
