The National Coordinator, Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Major General Abba Dikko (retd) says over 10,000 different types of weapons have been retrieved across theaters of operation in the country.
General Dikko stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after meeting with Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum at the Government House, Maiduguri.
“We have retrieved not less than 10,000 so far from the Police and other theaters of war, for the police alone we have retrieved almost 4,000 and what we have retrieved from other theaters cumulatively is about six thousand ” General Dikko stated.
According to Major General Abba Dikko, the Centre will begin profiling the recovered arms and equally commence litigation process of gun runners and others who engage in the illicit act.
The National Coordinator briefed the Governor that the center would leverage on the existing synergy to end the proliferation of small arms.
He explained that the Centre was working closely with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to remove illicit weapons from circulation, break supply chains to ensure that violence is reduced to the barest minimum in the county.
