Iran has advanced to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 for the fourth consecutive time.
The team clinched the spot after Australia defeated Kazakhstan 98-53 in Group F; although it lost to China 86-74 in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Behnam Yakhchali scored 28 points for Iran while Qian Wu led China with 18 points.
In the last World Cup, Iran was the highest-placed team from Asia at 23rd place. Its best performance was at World Cup 2010 in Turkey where it finished 19th among all teams.
