Forum lauds INEC, advocate deployment of technology

The West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for successfully conducting what it described as credible and fair Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

WACSOF is a regional network of civil society organizations from 15 West African countries.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja, WACSOF Team Lead, Mr Peter Eboatu said security agencies who displayed high level of professionalism thereby containing and managing security situations that arose during the elections.

Mr Eboatu noted that despite pocket of delays in some polling units across some states, elections commenced early in most of the states while there was delay in some states due to logistics.

However, WACSOF Team Lead said late arrival of election materials caused congestion at polling units and therefore called on INEC to make deliberate effort towards improving its logistics and ensure personnel arrive at the polling units early for subsequen.

Eboatu also urged INEC to provide dedicated MIFI to each polling unit to aid the easy upload of election results to the BVAS.

WACSOF appealed to the electoral umpire to deploy more security personnel to further increase the safety of the ballot and voters during the forthcoming Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
