Fire destroyed properties worth millions in Kano Market

An early morning fire has destroyed properties worth millions of naira, at Kurmi market in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi explained that, the fire destroyed 80 shops.
Saminu Abdullahi said the Agency received a distress call on Wednesday morning from one Aliyu Alkasim that there was a fire outbreak at Kurmi market.
He explained that, a rescue team was immediately mobilized to the scene, where they succeeded in putting out the fire.
Saminu Abdullahi noted that six permanent and 74 temporary shops were completely razed by the fire, but no life was lost.
He said, the cause of the fire is still not yet ascertained and advised traders to switch off all electrical appliances and disconnected from the source when not in use, and avoid careless use of naked fire.

Managing Director, Kurmi Market, Alhaji Ya’u Idris Karas said the fire started from a shop and spread to other parts of the market.
He commended Kano State Fire Service, Nigerian Police Force and other relevant stakeholder for their efforts in putting out the fire and ensuring security of lives and property at the market.
