Police in Australia have made the ‘biggest drug bust’ in the history of the country that stopped nearly $700m worth of cocaine linked to a Mexican drug cartel from reaching the country.
This followed a joint undercover operation, by the US and Australian law enforcement that intercepted 2.4 tonnes of cocaine aboard a vessel off the coast of South America that had been bound for Australia.
12 suspects have been arrested and charged in the case, Western Australian state police said in a statement on Saturday.
This was the first detail released of an operation that began last November when the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) intercepted the vessel.
