Bandits have killed a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a Police Inspector and abducted a man and a woman during an attack in Maru local government area of Zamfara State.
In a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu said, the incident occurred at about 2am when the bandits in their large numbers attacked the ancient town.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Kolo Yusuf has condoled with families of the deceased officers; SP Kazeem Raheem, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Maru Division, and Inspector Rabi’u Umar attached to the Division who paid the supreme price during a fierce confrontation with the bandits.
“On 5th March, 2023 at about 0200hrs, Bandits in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons attacked Maru Division with intent to destabilise the security architecture of the town in order to easily attack and abduct members of the community.”
He said, on receiving the distress call about the attack, the DPO and his team gallantly put up a strong resistance to repel the attackers. Unfortunately, he was killed alongside the inspector while protecting the public.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police has deployed reinforcement to pursue the fleeing hoodlums and arrest them for investigation and prosecution.
Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations (DCP) Iliyasu Kwarbai led another Police tactical team to the scene for on the spot assessment and confidence building patrol.
