Work is progressing on the Amansea -Ebenebe – Ugbene -Ugbenu- Awba- Ofemili road project reawarded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.

The road project which connects five out of the 10 communities of Awka North local government area is said to be strategic to the overall development of the agrarian area.

When Radio Nigeria visited the area; some residents commended the government for considering the road in its first phase of contracts awarded.

The 26 kilometres road was awarded by the Peter Obi led government but was not completed before the end of the administration.

Sadly, successive government also did not complete the project despite promises to complete, commission and commence new roads in the area.

The member representing Awka North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. John Nwokoye  revealed that the people had been clamouring for the completion of the road for the past twenty years.

While commending Governor Soludo for revisiting the project, Mr Nwokoye noted that the road was strategic as it connects Awka North local government area with Ayamelum which is also a food producing area.

”The Road also links the state with neighbouring Enugu State and a possible alternative rout whenever the major Enugu- Onitsha expressway is not motorable”, he n.

A Farmer, Mr. Elias Ndibe observed that the pace of work so far was encouraging and an indication that the present administration is poised to complete it.

Mr Agunwa Emmanuel who described the road as the greatest gift any government could bequeath them, appealed to the contractor handling the project to ensure speedy completion before the rains set in.

In an interview, the Project Manager of the firm handling the project said they had applied stone base in some KM of the road while hoping to deliver by August this year.
