Women from Tunga Ashere in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kilankwa II in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory FCT have been trained on digital marketing.

The two-day training was in commemoration of the International Women’s Day to enhance their capacity on the use of technology tools to boost business turnover.

The programme organised by Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) with support from Action Aid Nigeria, was also aimed at inspiring the women to pursue a career in the field of Digital marketing to meet up with the 21st century technology needs.

Programme Officer CITAD, Yesmin Salako said the training would give women who desire to grow their career in ICT, the opportunity to make use of relevant digital skills in upscaling their products for greater visibility.

This is because CITAD described information technology as a profession without boundary that enables people to employ themselves and provide employment opportunities to others.

A participant in the program, Alori Philmon who spoke on behalf of the women from Kilankwa II, Kwali Area Council FCT said she was very happy for this training.

Another participant Ummusalma Ibrahim from Tungan Ashere community in AMAC, while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to partake in the training appealed to relevant stakeholders to assist in checking internet frauds.

According to Ibrahim, there is the need for digital rights protection, equal civic space to reduce cases of online bullying, hacking, fake brand names among others.

Over 20 women from both communities were trained on business name registration, leadership skills to sustain clients relationship, respect for established laws and other online marketing rules.

The Theme for this year’s celebration was “Digit ALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.
